Renewing and Guarding Our Minds

As Christians, God calls us to renew and guard our minds. The enemy prowls around looking for any opportunity to cause us harm. But we have the Power of The Holy Spirit living inside of us and He has given us the best tool to help us – His Word, The Bible.

Along with reading The Bible, we pray, listen to good preaching and connect with other believers in the Body of Christ.

If you find that you are renewing and guarding well during the day (i.e. while awake), but find that your mind is a battleground while you sleep, there are two excellent apps that I recommend you take into your sleeping hours:

Why these apps?

  • The Study Bible allows you to have The Bible read to you, even when the phone is locked.
  • John MacArthur is one of the most faithful teachers of Biblical truth. And he presents the Word in a very teachable manner, while allowing you to get deeper into your understanding of God’s Word.
  • The Grace To You App is not only a rich history of sermons by topic or scripture, but also includes the Grace Stream, which allows you to jump into a sermon already in progress; like a radio. This also will continue to play while the phone is locked.

These apps are a great resources to easily help you renew and guard your mind any time of day or night.

13 Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 14 As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, 15 but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16 since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.” 17 And if you call on him as Father who judges impartially according to each one’s deeds, conduct yourselves with fear throughout the time of your exile, 18 knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot. 1 Pe 1:13–19

Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 1 Pe 5:8

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Ro 12:2
